Message from the Rector

Exeter College is built on centuries of private philanthropy. The work of people who believed passionately about the education of the young in beautiful surroundings.  All those marvellous buildings – the Chapel, the Hall, the student rooms around the quad – were built not with government grants, but with generations of private generosity. We have scholarships named for donors who are long gone, but whose names live on in benefactions that allow young people to study, regardless of their family wealth, and whose names I read out at the Founders’ Service every year. Remembering Olly Tucker and Sundeep Watts

The students of Exeter College have decided to raise funds in memory of the two first year students - Olly Tucker and Sundeep Watts - who died in Michaelmas Term 2007. They hope to raise funds to provide two benches in the College Garden and to refurbish the College Boat House (both students rowed in the same Novice VIII) in their memory. Rector discusses the effects of technology on society
The Rector has recorded an interview as part of the Voices from Oxford podcast series. The topic of the debate is the transformative effects of the internet, and modern communications technology generally, on society and on universities (a subject which the Rector addressed in her 2002 book, "The Company of the Future"). It is also a chance to listen to the Rector's reflections on the College today and on her work as a journalist“ and to see some film clips of the College too. We have more details, and a link to the interview.
